Last self reflection blog!

In my opinion, the purpose of this blogging activity was because we had been doing so many boring writing exercises along our years in school that we should do something that we wanted, writing of course, but to write about what we want and what we are passionate about. It also encouraged and made us better writers with doing what we wanted to write about, which makes it a win – win situation for both the student and my teacher, Ms. Rumford,; we wrote and we wrote about what they wanted. She also wanted us do a blog so we could learn how to use the blog and how to use one of the many ways to express and put information on the internet.

The things I accomplished during blogging was how to be a better writer by having to implement different sentence inclusions such as the poem format, doing a conclusion and introduction, using synonyms of words that I didn’t know and identifying the type of sentence they were. I have also accomplished that doing just a little bit of research to try and find tiny details can fill that space in your blog that is missing such as if you were doing baseball players and you didn’t put some of their stats that wouldn’t be very helpful to most people.

Some key concepts I have learned were for one I have obviously learned about blogging and how it is done, for example to get a Clustr Map, how to add widgets, how to approve and decline comments etc. I have also learned to cite my sources so if I use someone else’s writing or pictures it won’t be plagiarized. The length also made me go on the TV and play the game a bit more so that was a great benefit of doing a blog on games. :)

The weekly requirements made me a better writer because for example, identifying and highlighting your sentences, knowing when to use a comma, semi-colon, phrases and clauses, etc. These different sentence inclusions made me become a better writer because I had to use words that I hadn’t, thus learning the meaning of them and also words with similar meanings (synonyms). I also had to cite my sources, which sometimes I just found annoying and useless but I found out why you need to source and that is because you could get into a lot of trouble if you didn’t cite and someone found you had used their writing and plagiarized it.

Well it will definitely benefit me in the future if I need to create another blog or need to do more posts on a blog. It will also benefit me to cite my sources. It will also benefit me because of the way we did some of our blogs such as the word limit and the various sentence inclusions we had to include. It will also benefit me and the people who read my blog because they get information out of it and I get to play a game and basically do a review on it explaining how it is and how it works. So thanks to Ms. Rumford for this year of Language Arts! I have certainly learnt a lot and enjoyed blogging!

Xbox 360: Lego Indiana Jones the Original Adventures

Lego Indiana Jones the Original Adventures is a pretty good game although it might not look like it. It is a great adventure and puzzle, game just to let you know. Some are relatively hard to solve, and require lots of brainwork to figure some of these out. There is an adventure mode and nothing else. This game is relatively long compared to others, because to get 100% completion you must complete all the levels and get all of the treasures and deliver all post in every level. Although that may not seem so hard you sometimes (mostly) need a special weapon or character to get to them. As you complete levels, you unlock more characters that you can buy with studs (which are the little Lego pieces you find everywhere and are used as a currency.) Each different coloured stud is worth a different amount, so a silver one is worth 10, a gold one 100, a blue one 1,000 and a purple one 10,000.

There are three different stories you can play which are Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and Last Crusade. There are six chapters for each one, so 18 in all.  There are treasure chests around the game 10 total in each chapter, with a total of 180 treasure chests hidden all around the place. There is also a post, which one has to pick up the mail and put it into the mailbox, there is one in every level. All of these require free play. Once you beat a level, you can free play it, which means that you can select a character that you bought and you will play that character for that level, instead of having to play the default characters for that level. You also take along more than just the characters you choose (approximately 10.) If you post some mail, you will be able to buy an ability in the mailroom. Some of those abilities include invincibility, 10x the amount of studs you collect, treasure locater (shows an arrow towards where the treasure chests are) and fast dig. Throughout the game, you may have to dig up something from the ground, build something out of spare Lego or even push an object out of the way to reveal something. There is a room where you can buy characters; they can range from 2,000 studs to 200,000 studs depending on the character. There are also a few secret characters that you have to unlock in a different way such as Han Solo; you must find all six star wars characters located throughout the game. There are three secret levels that are the ancient city where you must collect 1,000,000 studs and there is only that amount in the level, there is young Indy where you have to do that level, and then there is the warehouse, which has no exact purpose but to build roads and get 200,000 studs. (None of these have mail or treasure chests in them which you need to collect.) You can also pick up things like bottles, swords and guns. Once you complete the game on 100% all coloured studs will fall from the sky.

Overall this game can sometimes be frustrating because you dont know what to do next or you dont know where to go. It is still a fun game though and is an 8.5 out of 10 for me because sometimes it is annoying but it a really good game and is fun to play.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

There have been many Call of Duty games but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is currently the newest one out there is so far. There is a new Call of Duty coming out soon though called Call of Duty: Black Ops! this is planned to be released on the 9th of November. Black Ops! is currently going to be the 9th Call of Duty game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a great first person shooter and has some of the best graphics available. It is also one of the highest and most copies sold rates, with 4.7 million copies worldwide in 24 hours and 14 million copies worldwide this makes it the second best-selling game of all time in the UK, and third best-selling game of all time in the U.S. It is on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. There are 43 weapons altogether, 14 attachments to certain weapons and 3 tiers of perks with a total of 16 each with a pro perk unlocked from that perk as well. It has a campaign, a multiplayer and special ops to choose from. In the campaign, there are III acts. The first act has five missions the second has six missions and the third has seven missions. There is also a bonus room at the end which doesn’t do anything but it a fun room and has all the weapons of the game there (plus 2 weapons that are nowhere else in the campaign) and dioramas of each mission. There is a button you can press to make all of the people in the dioramas come to life so you can fight them. You go through a story and your objective is to find information about and find the location of Vladimir Makarov and kill him. Makarov is the leader of Ultranationalist terrorist cell, which is a Russian organization. You go on various missions to find certain things and in the process; you have to fight his men as well which is where basically all the action from the game comes from. The characters that you play are Sergeant Gary “Roach” Sanderson and John “Soap” MacTavish. The words in quotation marks are the names that your team calls you. In special ops, you do missions that earn you stars. Depending on the time and/or difficulty, that’s how many stars you get. There is a maximum of three stars for each op. There are five categories in special ops, which are Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo. All of the ops have five missions in them except for Echo, which has three. Also each category has a certain amount of stars you need from the ops to unlock it. You first start with only Alpha, Bravo needs 4 stars to be unlocked, Charlie needs 8 stars, Delta needs 20 stars and Echo needs 40 stars. Multiplayer is one of best things of Modern Warfare 2 because it features online and split screen (multiple players on the same screen up to four.) the thing about multiplayer is that you vs. each other and in teams if there’s more than 2 players. This is where lots of the weapons are but in order to unlock certain weapons you need levels which you need to kill others for. This is how Modern Warfare 2 works, I really recommend you try it out sometime if you already haven’t!!!

Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360

At the start of my journey

I sensed evil in the air

I took out my grenadier

and shot out over the river

I saw blood splatter everywhere and then hopped into a humvee

we arrived at a school

the bad guys had taken over

we then got the area safe again but then

I found myself on an icy cold edge

side walking along inch by inch

we then came to a dead end with nowhere to go

but saw a way up and we climbed up into the snow

we went into a blizzard

but in the distance we saw some buildings

we planted some bombs

then blew them up

we took some snowmobiles

we started a deep decent and made a jump

over a 200 foot abyss.

We got to a town

killed some guys

we ran back to our chopper

I fall off a roof

I run back to the helicopter

dodging bullets as I go

I jump onto the ladder.

A big plane comes and crashes near a nearby house

we mark some anti-air guns and tanks

we hear a big clank

we get to the house.

I find myself travelling underwater

to a base in water

we rescue some hostages

I blow up a helicopter.

I appear in a forest

we copy some files from a computer

I almost get killed by a shooter

then unexpectedly

we get shot by our own general

get tossed away

get petrol put on us in slow play

WHOOSH

the fire spreads

the screen turns red

and now … I am dead.

Sonic and the Secret Rings: Wii

Sonic and the secret rings: Wii is an OK game it’s also a pretty hard game especially if you’re a beginner. The story goes that sonic was reading a book called The Arabian Nights after reading this sonic falls asleep and a genie called Shahra wakes him up and tells you that another evil genie, called the Erazor Djinn, is going to slowly destroy the pages of the book. Now this book isn’t just a book it’s another world, so Shahra takes sonic into the book. The Erazor Djinn tells sonic that he has to collect the 7 world rings in order for him to not destroy the book. You play as sonic and you need to get all of the seven world rings. There are quite a few levels in the few different worlds you get, you unlock one every time you complete a certain level. You unlock other levels by completing other levels. You have some special moves as well which will allow you to do certain things you unlock these by completing levels and by activating (or deactivating) them on one of the four skill rings you have (all that does is make four different combinations of skills on that particular ring.) The game play is that it’s 3D, you only use the Wii remote and the adventure mode is single player but there are multiplayer games as well that you can unlock things in by completing levels in the adventure mode. There are a few bosses in this game at the end of some levels you unlock a new world after you’ve beaten one. The bad thing about this game is that you automatically run and you have to be very cautious of where you run and what you run into which is a very annoying thing about this game. However, there are some levels where you just run and jump and don’t have to really worry about crashing into anything and dying.

Best game of my blog posts so far

so you guys have been reading my posts right? anyway you have to choose one of the games i have done a post on to be the best game of my posts. this is about the actual game and not the post. so you dont choose a blog post because its good you need to choose the game you think is best.

the choices are:

New Super Mario Bros. Wii,

Super Mario Galaxy,

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and

Rayman Raving Rabbids.

so which do you think is best? comment and say which one it will be

Rayman Raving Rabbids Wii

Rayman Raving Rabbids is a great game; it uses a plunger-powered gun to shoot plungers and has many other random mini-games to get your freedom from the rabbids and to save the Globox kids. After you and the Globox kids are captured, you must complete 3 out of the four games and then enter the levels boss. There are several levels and must repeat this over and over, but the levels are harder each time. When you finish a levels’ boss you get a plunger that they throw into your room. You realize that there is a window right at the top of the wall and you then see how you can make a ladder of plungers to climb up and escape. The mini-games fall into these categories: Bunny Hunt, Sports, Challenges, and ‘Shake your Booty!’ Your main enemies in this game are the rabbids they are like rabbits, but more evil. When they capture you, you have to entertain them by dancing, having competitions with rabbids on warthog-type creatures and many more games to satisfy the rabbids. In the mini-game Bunny Hunt, you use a gun to shoot plungers at rabbits and usually kill a boss at the end of it. When you kill all of the Rabbids in the area, you will automatically move to the next section. In the ‘Shake your Booty!’ category you have to dance by shaking the Wii remote and nunchuk to when the bunny lands on a certain point. In sports there are a few different games in this category some include riding a warthog-type creature in a race, milking a cow as fast as possible and making a superman rabbid fly as far as possible by pushing a rail cart as fast as possible then hitting the end of the track and you watch him fly off. On the challenges mini-game you need a certain amount of points to unlock each level. Each level has three consecutive levels that are in the other sections to complete. There have been many platforms that this game has been on, including PC, Mac OS X, PS2, Wii, Game Boy Advance, DS, Xbox 360 and Mobile, but most of them are different. So not to confuse you I am talking about the Wii version.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess game has a big step up from graphics from its last one: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. The graphics are more real and have more realistic items although this may be because the actual game play is not realistic because it is fiction and Link (the character that you play as) can put a lot of items in one tiny little bag tied to his belt. This same game was first on GameCube then it was made on Wii soon after. The storyline of this game is about good will.  You help save the light world (his world) with the help of Midna, who is a little pixie who was transformed by Zant from their race of creature to a pixie type creature. You begin at your small village where you first have to do a few things around the place. You have to get a few items that let you progress through this stage and then your friends are kidnapped by an evil Bulbin (similar to a goblin), which happens to be king Bulbin. Then you chase after them but you run into an odd dark wall that you are dragged through by a Twilight messenger. (See here.)

The messenger tries to strangle you and your tri-force symbol shines and blinds the messenger making it retreat. You then feel very strange and your body is engulfed by a wolf link form, which you have now turned into. Then Midna finds you when you wake up in a prison cell only to find yourself locked to a chain. Midna talks to you, frees you and then you continue to finish this part in the game. There are many monsters in this game that you encounter including Skulltula’s (giant spiders), Bulbin’s, keese (like bats except more evil) and many, many more.

This game takes quite a while to actually complete and even harder to get all the heart pieces and heart containers (your life energy), giant quiver (holds the most arrows), giant wallet and all the poe souls (you have to kill them while in wolf form and they are hidden everywhere in the game and hard to get all of them). There are nine dungeons in the whole game but they don’t just go like that. First, you have to get to that dungeon which might take some time but also because you will want to get some of the items first so it’s easier to complete and you will always need at least some of the items for actually getting to the dungeon. Some of the dungeons include Snowpeak Mountain, a temple of time (takes you back in time but doesn’t change your current age) and a Forest Temple. All of these have mini-bosses and bosses for each dungeon. The last dungeon also has mini-bosses as normal monsters, which makes it a big challenge! There is always a compass (shows chests and dungeon related items on the map as well as the boss chamber), a dungeon map (shows the map of the area on all levels) and a big key which gets access to the boss’ chamber. There are also certain things you must do to reach the big key as well and is easily the hardest item to get in the dungeons. After you kill a mini-boss, you get a new item from a chest and you always need that item for the dungeons boss and for the big key as well (or at least get the item first to obtain the big key.)There is one exception however, in the last dungeon there is no new item and use only what you have gotten from the previous dungeons.

Overall, this is a great game not only because it has great graphics and a great storyline but also because it is a very long game and actually takes some time to beat because most games don’t take much time to beat. My record on beating this game (with every item and heart container) is about 35 hours!

Super Mario Galaxy, Wii

Super Mario Galaxy is a great Mario game and is 3D which means you can walk in all directions and has features in all directions. The storyline of this game is again to rescue Princess Peach from the evil claws of Bowser. You first start as Bowser is capturing peach and you fall off the castle. You rouse up in a arcane planet (the planets in this game are extremely small and can easily walk around them.) You first get a little tutorial of the game in this basic planet and you have to capture 3 bunnies which are hidden in various places of the planet. after that there are things called launch stars which launch you to another planet. there are also small ones as well which launch for just a little bit and also grab stars which you have to press and hold A and you will go into a bubble and float around according to the grab star your holding. There are also little things called star bits which you need for the game. You can play with two people but there isn’t two characters on one level so the second player helps the first player by: collecting star bits by ruffling through the plants or pointing the remote at star bit in the air they can also make Mario jump really high if they both make him jump at the same time.

There are six domes in the main place: the observatory. there are a few grand stars which, when you get one of them unlocks the next dome for new levels. each of the galaxies contain levels in each one which have a few or 1 power star. you need a certain amount of power stars to get further and unlock more levels. At about the 2nd dome Luigi is in a haunted mansion waiting for you to come and rescue him. After you save him he will find some of the stars, but then get captured or trapped in the level so you have to save him. There is also a hidden star in some of the main galaxies in the domes (which is about 2-4 per dome. Luma’s are little star type creatures which turn into stars someday. as Luma’s are young at their stage they are also small and like star bits. Hungry luma’s appear next to every dome on the observatory once you get enough stars from that dome. You then have to feed the Luma a certain number of star bits to which the Luma turns into a planet and you can play that level (these aren’t secret levels however.) There are also a variety of enemies in this game including: goomba, wizard, dry bones, crabs and mandibugs these are only a few of the big list of enemies. The way to kill the normal types of enemies (not bosses) is to either shoot a star bit at them to stun them and then jump on them or spin them (spinning is an attack that you get from the first galaxy) and then walk into them and this kills them. It is a very fun and entertaining game it requires quite a lot of thinking to sometimes work things out.

This picture shows most of the Boss enemies and also some of the mini-bosses(except for Mario of course.) Also two Luma’s; a yellow one and a blue one.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Today I am going to talk about Super Mario Bros. Wii. This game was first on the Nintendo DS and it moved on to be on the Wii as well. It has improved graphics, it is has more advanced game play and came in a new red case. The aim of this game is to save Princess Peach by going through all the levels (or skipping them by unlocking certain levels like pipes and warp cannons, but more of that later) and defeating Bowser Jr. and his minions. The new thing about this game, from the DS version, is that you don’t always VS Bowser Jr. in mini boss battles instead you VS one of Bowser’s minions. this game has had new power-ups added to the classic super mushroom and fire flower. These include ice flower, propeller mushroom, penguin suit and you can now ride Yoshi’s which can swallow enemies, items and even hold another player in the Yoshi’s mouth! The new ability to tilt the Wii remote made it that you could be tilting a seesaw that you jumped on or shake it the air to do a spin that makes you a get a little bit more distance than just jumping. The other great new thing about this game is that you can now have 4 players at once playing. This game sold 2.8 million copies sold in December 2009 and in January another 650,000-plus copies to people in the United States. Although it is still in 2D, some of the characters and objects are 3D and are rendered on 2D backgrounds, resulting in a 2.5D effect. During multiplayer, if someone loses a life they will reappear inside a bubble, and can resume play once another player frees them by touching the bubble. there are usually enemies wandering around on the map, and if you bump into one you will go into a mini fight kind of thing and you will get mushrooms as a reward. In some courses ,with the normal flag pole as well, there’s a hidden goal leading to a red flag pole. Jumping on goal will open up a new path on the map, leading to new courses and on occasion a warp cannon (which will shoot Mario to another world). There is also a new feature called a “super guide” it is a green block with a ! on it and it appears when someone dies 8 times on a certain level. When you hit the ! block it will show you a guide of Luigi doing the level for you. There are 9 different worlds in the game. The first 8 levels you unlock from beating each world and moving on to the next. When you complete the last level of world 8 you finish the game but you get world 9. World 9 is a secret world, in order to unlock the levels in world 9 you need to collect all of the star coins of each level in a world. Example. You collect all of the star coins in each level of world 1 you unlock the first level of world 9. And that applies to all of the levels in world 9, you do not need to complete them in order though and there are 3 star coins in each level. Overall New Super Mario Bros. Wii is an excellent cooperative game that is very exciting and challenging to play.
